My name is Danielle. I am 20 years old and I am a third year university student in Canada. I love science, especially molecular biology. I’m pretty thrilled with the world of academia and would love to stay nestled in it for the rest of my life. However, my ultimate goal is to become an MD and teach as well as treat patients. I hope to someday be a pediatric pulmonologist and make a real difference to kids with asthma and all lung diseases. To describe me as a nerd would be… quite fair : )
I have asthma. Though it has certainly made its impact on my life and subjected me to a steady state of instability, it’s far from being my one defining feature . I’ve learned to roll with it, and I’ve actually learned quite a few cool things from it. The main topic of this blog is my thoughts and experiences pertaining to asthma, but the real-life version of me doesn’t discuss it all that much. I hope you can tolerate my ramblings on about other subjects as well.
Other than school, I enjoy playing music (I play the violin, viola and accordion), hiking, climbing, highland dancing, reading, and just goofing around!

Hi Danielle,
My name is Janis Hass and I work for the Canadian Lung Association. I know your blog’s main interest is asthma but I was wondering if you could help spread the word about another lung disease – COPD?
COPD is Canada’s fourth leading cause of death and it’s on the rise for baby boomers. As you know, awareness about Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is low. That’s why Canadian actress and comedian Mary Walsh, best known for her starring role in This Hour Has 22 Minutes, is helping us raise awareness for World COPD Day on November 18th.
Several members of Mary’s family have COPD. So she’s made a video for us urging people at risk for COPD to get tested. Can you help us and Mary spread the word?
Here’s how:
• View the video and share it with others.
• Tell the world what you think of Mary’s video by giving it a rating on Youtube, blogging or tweeting about it.
• Embed the video on your site
Mary’s video is featured on our newly revamped TeamCOPD site, a virtual community created by The Lung Association for COPDers and their supporters. The site brings together photos from Flikr, videos from Youtube, and tweets from Twitter, to show COPDers and supporters doing Coast 2 Coast Challenge and talking about life with COPD.
I invite you to visit our site, share it with others by forwarding the link or blogging or tweeting about it.
I noticed that you are a runner. You can also join a free event, our Coast2Coast Challenge, where you can donate running kms. to raise awareness about COPD. Check it out at: http://www.teamcopd.ca
If you do not wish to receive messages like this from The Lung Association, please let me know.
Thanks,
Janis

Hi Janis, I will do what I can to help you out. I think Mary Walsh is great and I love 22minutes. I’m passionate about all things breathing so I’ll get blogging! It will have to wait until after my midterm tomorrow though…
Thank you for commenting!

Please read this:
http://steven-a-sylwester.blogspot.com/2009/10/connecting-dots-asthma-and-vitamin-d.html
The story is absolutely true. I wrote it. Please link the web address on your blog so other asthma sufferers can read it.
Every asthma sufferer should demand a blood Vitamin D level test from his/her physician. My guess is that most asthma sufferers are Vitamin D deficient. If they are, the might experience a total cure of their asthma by simply raising their blood Vitamin D level up to within the normal range. I am not exaggerating one bit in making that statement.
If you have any questions after reading my article, please feel free to contact me.
